Dr. Debabrata Samanta

Dr. Debabrata Samanta, Assistant Professor of Economics and Area Chair of the Economics Area and the Centre Coordinator of the Centre for Public Policy at Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna.

He Completed Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and M.Sc in Economics from the University of Calcutta.

Worked with Panchayats and Rural Development Department of Government of West Bengal in different capacities and have experience in the analysis of issues related to rural development policies, rural development programme management, decentralized governance.

Provided policy suggestions and took part in formulating policies focusing on poverty alleviation and ensuring accountability and land governance with the Government of West Bengal and the Government of Bihar.

Provided consultancy support to different departments of the Government of Bihar, the Government of India, and the World Bank. Coordinated the Land Governance Assessment Framework (LGAF) study of the World Bank for Bihar and contributed to two World Bank Reports, namely (i) 'India Land Governance Assessment: National Synthesis Report, 2015 and (ii) 'Enabling the Business of Agriculture, 2017'.

Collaborated with Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA and Georgia State University, Atlanta, USA for academic research, training and public policy-related activities.

Delivered invited lectures at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. Taught multiple courses at the Central University of Bihar as a guest faculty.

Published more than 40 articles in national and international journals and national and internationally published books/edited volumes/handbooks.
